La Mecque : Près de deux millions de pèlerins entament le Hadj à Mina
The major annual pilgrimage began on Monday, May 25, 2026. Nearly two million faithful converged on the Mina Valley, eight kilometers from the Grand Mosque in Mecca, for the day of Tarwiyah. Housed in a vast city of fireproof tents, the pilgrims dedicate this important time to prayer and reflection.
This step prepares the faithful for the crucial moment of the Hajj, scheduled for Tuesday: the gathering on Mount Arafat for a day of supplications and forgiveness, in the very place where the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) delivered his last sermon.
The journey will then continue to Muzdalifah, followed by the stoning of the pillars at Mina. For this year's pilgrimage, Saudi authorities have announced that Arafat's sermon will be translated live into 35 languages for believers worldwide. A fundamental pillar of Islam, the Hajj is a lifelong obligation for every Muslim who is physically and financially able to undertake it.
