Cameroun : Me Alice Nkom lance trois jours de « Villes Mortes » en signe de résistance
The lawyer and spokesperson for opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary announced a series of resistance actions, including the suspension of economic activities and what she calls "the people's regional elections", starting on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
Alice Nkom, a prominent lawyer and spokesperson for opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary – who claims victory in the last presidential election – has called for a new phase of protest against the Yaoundé regime.
In a public statement, she announced three consecutive days of "ghost towns," from Sunday, November 30 to Tuesday, December 2, 2025 , with a detailed action plan for each day.
The call for resistance coincides with Cameroon's second regional elections. While municipal councilors and traditional chiefs will go to the polls to elect the 900 regional councilors, Mr. Nkom is proposing a digital alternative.
The lawyer did not, however, specify the exact purpose of this popular vote or the planned follow-up actions.
The "ghost town" plan for Monday and Tuesday calls for a general suspension of activities . This approach echoes the "ghost towns" regularly imposed on Mondays in the Northwest and Southwest regions by separatists.
According to Alice Nkom, the main objective of this resistance is to recall the central demand: "respect for the truth of the ballot box" of last October's presidential election.
Although presented as a form of boycott, these acts of resistance are not expected to have a major impact on the conduct of the regional elections on November 30.
Indeed, the vote is indirect , meaning that the electorate is composed solely of municipal councilors and traditional chiefs, and not the general public. Furthermore, the vast majority of these local electors are members of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM), the ruling party, which ensures the continuity of the institutional process, even in the absence of the FSNC (Issa Tchiroma Bakary's party) and despite the boycott.
