Démantèlement d'une Boulangerie Clandestine Inacceptable à Grand-Yoff, Dakar

On November 24, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM, the Grand-Yoff District Police Station dismantled an illegal bakery operating within the Bignona garage in the Water Catchment Zone. This operation was part of the ongoing security and public health protection mission undertaken by law enforcement.

🔎 Discovery and Observations

It was during a foot patrol by the research brigade that a team came across a shack emitting thick smoke, nestled in the heart of the famous Bignona garage. The inspection of the premises revealed the existence of an illegal bread production unit, run by three (03) individuals .

The findings made on site revealed absolutely deplorable hygiene conditions and an extremely unsanitary production environment:

  1. Damaged Products:
  1. Two hundred and twenty-seven (227) baguettes of bread spread out on a manifestly unsuitable sheet, in the presence of mealworms and microbial molds .
  2. Cockroaches coexisted with the bread production.
  1. Equipment and Raw Materials:
  1. One (01) archaic machine used as a flour mixer.
  2. Two (02) preheated coal-fired ovens.
  3. Eight (08) bags of flour stored directly on the ground .
  4. About twenty wooden trays filled with balls of flour.
  1. Unsanitary Conditions:
  1. Eleven (11) open water bottles, exposed to the open air, used for preparing bread.
  2. Inappropriate trolleys for transferring food within Dakar.
  3. The entire site emitted a nauseating odor , revealing an unimaginable level of unsanitary conditions.

🛑 Seizure and Legal Proceedings

The entire production line was seized for sealing purposes, and the premises were immediately closed.

The initial neighborhood investigation indicates that this bakery had been operating in these appalling sanitary conditions for over a decade . The three individuals involved have been taken into custody and will face charges on several serious offenses, including:

  1. Production and sale of food unfit for consumption .
  2. Deception regarding the quality of the merchandise.
  3. Endangering the lives of others .
  4. Violation of regulations governing bakery and pastry activities in Senegal.
