Sénégal : L’économiste Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô prend la tête du gouvernement
The political landscape in Senegal is shifting. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye officially appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as Prime Minister this Monday. This appointment comes just three days after the dismissal of Ousmane Sonko, who had led the government since April 2, 2024.
The official announcement was relayed by Samba Ba, the Minister Secretary General of the Government.
An economist by training, Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô is no stranger to the workings of the state. Before this appointment, he held the strategic position of Minister of State to the President, where he oversaw the implementation and evaluation of the National Transformation Agenda for Senegal 2050. His academic and institutional background is solid:
“This appointment reflects the President of the Republic’s commitment to pursuing, with dedication and responsibility, the implementation of national priorities, the strengthening of the effectiveness of public action, and the acceleration of reforms for the benefit of the Senegalese people.” — Press release from the Presidency of the Republic (via Facebook)
This reshuffle marks a key step in the reorganization of the executive branch desired by President Faye. For the moment, the presidential palace on Avenue Roume has provided no details on the composition of the future government team, nor on the broad outlines of its immediate roadmap.
The new Prime Minister will, however, have the difficult task of injecting new economic momentum while also addressing the country's social emergencies.
