Abidjan : La Y4, Autoroute de Contournement, sera Complètement Achevé Fin Décembre

Dr. Amédé Koffi Kouakou, Minister of Equipment and Road Maintenance, announced on Thursday, November 20, 2025, that the 55 kilometers of the Abidjan bypass highway, the Y4 , will be fully completed by the end of December .

This highway is strategic for the economic capital. It will offer a crucial alternative route to significantly reduce urban traffic congestion .

Progress of the Works

According to the minister, the overall completion rate is almost complete along the entire route. Completion is imminent on all sections:

  1. Completed: The sections from Koffi Gadeau Boulevard (Akouédo Camp) to Ebimpé Stadium, as well as the link between this boulevard and the Alépé road, are already finished.
  2. Almost finished:
  3. Alépé Road – Ebimpé Stadium segment: 98% completion.
  4. Ebimpé Stadium – Northern Highway segment: 99% completion.
  5. Northern Highway segment – Jacqueville–Songon intersection: Over 90% completion.

The entire 55 km project is divided into two sections of 27.5 km each. It should be noted that the first section was financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and was opened during the last Africa Cup of Nations.

A Complete Bypass for the Interior of the Country

The Y4 will allow motorists to completely bypass Abidjan . It will facilitate direct access to:

  1. The East: Alépé, Adzopé, Abengourou, Agnibilékrou, and Bondoukou.
  2. The North: The northern highway towards Yamoussoukro, Bouaké and Korhogo.
  3. The West: The Dabou crossroads, with a possible link to Jacqueville.

This new infrastructure represents a major alternative for all those who previously had to cross the city centre to get to the interior of the country.

Challenge and Consultation

The minister identified a key area of concern: the PK24 zone . Runoff from industrial sites there causes flooding and road closures during the rainy season. A technical committee has been established, in collaboration with the Minister of Industry and Trade, Souleymane Diarrassouba (who was present during the visit), to find lasting solutions.

Dr. Amédé Kouakou concluded by praising the efforts of the Ageroute teams and monitoring missions, stressing that this flagship project aligns with President Alassane Ouattara's vision of sustainably improving mobility in the capital.
