The Swiss Center for Scientific Research (CSRS) in Ivory Coast is entering a new era. Professor Jérémie Zoueu Thouakesseh , a specialist in photonics, officially took office as Director General on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Succeeding Professor Inza Koné at a handover ceremony in Adiopodoumé, he clearly stated his ambition: to strengthen the center's influence and make it an essential scientific reference point serving development.

A vision focused on innovation and attractiveness

Appointed following an international selection process, Professor Zoueu becomes the second Ivorian to lead this prestigious institution. To propel the CSRS to new heights, the new director general is focusing on modernization and openness.

2. Modernizing governance: Leveraging digital technology and data valorization.
3. Capacity building: Attracting new talent and increasing the centre's capacity to host and train.

Professor Zoueu emphasized that science must respond to real-world situations. Emphasis will be placed on an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach.

"It is not just about producing knowledge, but above all about transforming it into solutions, innovations and sustainable results for the benefit of populations," he reaffirmed.

This new roadmap will be in line with the CSRS's flagship programs, particularly in the key sectors of public health , the environment and food security .

The event took place under the watchful eye of the institution's Board of Directors, chaired by Professor Koné Tidiani, who also represented the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Adama Diawara.
