Algérie : Le Président Tebboune ordonne une enquête suite à des incendies "inhabituels"
Forest fires of an unusual scale and timing for this time of year have recently struck several regions of northern Algeria, prompting authorities to take action.
Faced with this situation, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune called on Sunday for an investigation to "determine the causes of the fires that broke out simultaneously" in remote areas.
According to the Civil Protection agency, almost all of the 55 fires have been brought under control. However, the intensity of the flames was significant, particularly between Thursday and Friday in Tipaza, near Algiers, where a massive mobilization of resources was underway.
These events occurred after a week marked by summer-like temperatures , well above seasonal norms for autumn. While fires are frequent in this region during the summer, their occurrence at this time of year is considered very rare .
Several media outlets have also reported the arrest of four suspects following these disasters, suggesting a potentially criminal origin, which the investigation ordered by the president will have to confirm.
