Burkina Faso : L'ex-président Damiba accusé d'une tentative de putsch déjouée
The Burkinabe government announced it had thwarted a coup attempt planned for January 3rd. According to Security Minister Mahamadou Sana, the plot targeted the assassination of Captain Ibrahim Traoré and several transitional officials.
Former Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, currently in exile in Togo, is identified as the mastermind of the operation. He is accused of planning the attack, which was to include a foreign ground offensive and the neutralization of the Ouagadougou drone base. Authorities claim that part of the funding, estimated at 70 million CFA francs, came from Ivory Coast. Several arrests have already been made, supported by the filmed confession of an implicated businessman.
