Burkina Faso : Ouagadougou suspend les visas pour les ressortissants américains par réciprocité
The government of Burkina Faso has announced a complete suspension of visa issuance to US citizens. This decision, formalized this month, comes in direct response to the visa restrictions imposed by the Trump administration on December 16, 2025, against Burkinabe citizens.
Invoking the "principle of reciprocity," the transitional authorities intend to implement measures strictly equivalent to those of Washington. In its statement, the government emphasizes its commitment to the sovereignty of states and mutual respect, while also expressing its openness to cooperation based on shared interests.
This firm stance is reminiscent of the one recently adopted by Ghana against Israel, where a similar diplomatic response led to a swift agreement. It remains to be seen whether this pressure from Ouagadougou will be enough to persuade American diplomacy to reconsider its position.
