Burkina Faso : Saisie majeure de plus de 8 000 explosifs à la frontière sud
Burkina Faso customs officials carried out a spectacular operation at the Cinkansé border post on the Ouagadougou-Lomé road. Between January 4 and 8, 2026, more than 8,000 explosive devices were intercepted during routine checks.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 7,000 sticks of explosives and 872 detonating cords concealed in travelers' luggage. This haul was supplemented a few days later by the Mobile Intervention Unit (UMI), which seized an additional 165 sticks and 22 cords.
The Director General of Customs, Inspector Yves Kafando, hailed this success as proof of the State's commitment to protecting the population and preserving the country's stability. Some of the equipment was handed over to the armed forces for destruction, while the remainder remains sealed for the purposes of the investigation.
