Cameroun : l'armée met fin au blocus routier des camionneurs sur la Nationale 1
National Route 1 (RN1) in Cameroon, a vital artery linking the Far North to Yaoundé, was unblocked by the army on the night of December 6-7, after five days of total paralysis.
🚛 Origin and impact of the crisis
- Cause of the blockade: The movement was initiated by angry truckers following an altercation between a truck driver and a police officer .
- Demand: The carriers were protesting in particular against the multiplication and the deemed "excessive" nature of certain checkpoints on this route.
- Consequences: Hundreds of trucks were left immobilized over a distance of about ten kilometers, severely disrupting the supply of fresh and agricultural products to markets in Yaoundé and other regions.
🚨 Military intervention
Despite the failure of negotiations led by local authorities to resolve the crisis, the situation took a decisive turn during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
- Action: The army intervened to clear the road and restore traffic on the RN1.
- Conclusion: The operation allowed traffic to resume , although it caused material damage to some vehicles.
Despite the road being cleared, several trucks remained parked the next day, indicating a situation that remained tense on the ground.
