In Cameroon, the Constitutional Council has proclaimed the results of the presidential election, declaring Paul Biya the winner. Candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary's reaction was swift.
"The Constitutional Council has just proclaimed truncated results, attributing a fictitious victory to outgoing President Paul Biya. By acting in this way, this institution has just turned away from its mission of guardian of peace and democracy to become a partisan body, an enemy of the sovereignty of the people," he insists.
The opposition leader declares that the truth of the ballot box was clear. He says that all the tally sheets compiled by his representatives across the country demonstrate that he "won this election with an overwhelming majority."
Calling for an end to the acts of barbarity, killings, arbitrary arrests, and intimidation, Tchiroma nevertheless warned that "the people will not back down." "We will continue to resist until victory," he said in his statement shared on his digital platforms.
