CAN 2025 : Bras de fer juridique entre le Maroc et le Sénégal autour du trophée
The African football world is in turmoil. While a ceremony to present the trophy for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled for this Saturday, March 28th at the Stade de France , Morocco is taking legal action to have the event banned.
It all began on January 18th in Rabat. On the pitch, Senegal defeated Morocco (1-0) in a highly charged match. The game was notably marked by a ten-minute interruption: the Lions of Teranga temporarily left the field to protest a penalty awarded to Morocco.
However, the scenario took a turn behind the scenes:
Senegal, which does not recognize this decision, has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) . Convinced of their sporting rights, the Senegalese officials intend to present the trophy to the French public during a friendly match against Peru.
The Moroccan response was swift. This Friday, March 27, Mourad El Ajouti , president of the Moroccan Lawyers' Club, launched a major legal offensive:
“We will take civil action against the organizers if this ceremony takes place,” warns Mr. El Ajouti.
| State of the conflict | Details |
| Winner on the field | Senegal (1-0) |
| Administrative winner (CAF) | Morocco (3-0, by default) |
| Case in progress | Senegal's appeal to the CAS |
| Immediate risk | The trophy was seized on French soil this weekend. |
