Central Nigeria has been plunged back into horror. On Palm Sunday evening, a targeted shooting at a bar in the Jos area left 28 people dead, according to the governor's official count. Tensions immediately escalated, leading to the lynching of three more individuals in the aftermath.

A security failure highlighted

Despite prior reports from residents mentioning suspicious movements of armed men on motorcycles, no preventative measures were taken. This inaction has sparked outrage.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN): Condemns an attack on a holy day and demands that the army anticipate threats instead of simply observing the damage.
Riley Moore (US Congressman): Calls on Nigerian authorities to protect Christian communities, who are particularly vulnerable during religious celebrations.

The authorities' response

Faced with the risk of conflagration in this region historically scarred by intercommunal conflicts, the local government has taken radical measures:

A 48-hour curfew has been imposed across the entire area.
Total ban on the circulation of motorcycle taxis.

"The perpetrators of this massacre seek to trigger a cycle of reprisals and further bloodshed," warned President Bola Tinubu , calling for calm to prevent the region from descending back into sectarian violence.
