Congo-Brazzaville : Le président de la FECOFOOT condamné à la perpétuité
The verdict was handed down this Monday, March 9th, at the Brazzaville Criminal Court. Jean Guy Blaise Lionel Mayolas , president of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT), was sentenced to life imprisonment . Accused of massive financial misconduct, the sports official is now subject to an arrest warrant.
The court has brought several serious charges against Mr. Mayolas and his associates:
The case originated during the pandemic. The investigation revealed that more than $1 million , initially allocated by FIFA to support Congolese football in the face of the health crisis, was allegedly embezzled by the federation's top brass.
The judgment was particularly harsh, especially for those who were absent:
| Accused | Penalty | Fine | Status |
| Jean Guy Blaise Lionel Mayolas | Perpetuity | 100 million FCFA | On the run (in absentia) |
| JGB Mayolas' son | Perpetuity | — | On the run (in absentia) |
| Bandji Mombo Wantété (Secretary General) | 5 years imprisonment | 1 million FCFA | Present at the hearing |
| Raoul Kanda (Accountant) | 5 years imprisonment | 1 million FCFA | Present at the hearing |
Note: An arrest warrant has been officially issued against Jean Guy Blaise Lionel Mayolas, whose current location remains unknown.
For now, the future of Congolese football management remains uncertain, as no body has yet communicated on the establishment of an interim leadership at the head of FECOFOOT.
