Drame au Burkina Faso : Sept commerçants ghanéens exécutés par des insurgés
Northern Burkina Faso was the scene of another horrific event last Saturday. Seven Ghanaian traders, who had come to the town of Titao to buy tomatoes, were coldly gunned down during an incursion by Islamist armed groups.
According to information released by Ghana's Interior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the group consisted of 18 traders . The attackers' modus operandi suggests targeted violence.
Despite the brutality of the assault, some members of the convoy survived:
The victims were buried on Monday morning in Burkina Faso, in the presence of the survivors. Ghanaian authorities, hampered by the ongoing insecurity in the area, were unable to reach the site.
It took Burkina Faso's defense forces several hours to regain control of Titao. A military escort was promised to repatriate the wounded to the Ghanaian embassy in Ouagadougou.
Note: This attack is part of the ongoing deterioration of security in the Sahel, where affiliates of Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State are increasing their atrocities, causing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
