Drame en Turquie : Mort du chef d’état-major libyen dans un accident d’avion

Lieutenant General Mohamed Al-Haddad , a central figure in Libyan security, died on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The crash occurred in Turkey, shortly after his departure from Ankara, where he was conducting high-level diplomatic discussions.

The circumstances of the accident

The business jet, a Falcon 50 , took off from Esenboğa Airport bound for Libya. Contact was lost approximately forty minutes later. According to initial reports:

  1. Location: The wreck was located near Kesikkavak (Haymana district), about 60 km south of the Turkish capital.
  2. Probable cause: An emergency signal was reportedly emitted before the crash, suggesting a technical failure .
  3. Investigation: A team of Libyan experts travels to Ankara to collaborate with Turkish authorities on the judicial investigation already underway.

A heavy human toll

Libyan Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibah confirmed the disappearance of several high-ranking military officials who were accompanying General Al-Haddad. Among the victims are:

  1. Al-Fitouri Ghraybel : Chief of Staff of the Land Forces.
  2. Mahmoud Al-Qatawi : Director of the Military Industry Authority.
  3. Mohamed Al-Assaoui Diab : Advisor to the Chief of Staff.
  4. Mohamed Omar Ahmed Mahjoub : Military photographer.

A strategic loss for Libya

In office since August 2020, General Al-Haddad was one of the pillars of the UN-backed mediation efforts. His role was crucial in the complex project of unifying the Libyan army.

Prime Minister Dbeibah paid tribute to these men, praising their dedication to the state during a period of great security fragility for the country.
