A horrific road accident struck the town of Kozah on Sunday, March 8, 2026. The collision, which occurred around noon on the "mountain road," involved a truck with foreign license plates and a tricycle. The human toll was heavy: 14 dead , including two minors, and 58 injured who were hospitalized in critical condition.

A rapid intervention via the ORSEC plan

Faced with the scale of the tragedy, the Minister of Security immediately activated the ORSEC plan (Civil Security Response Organization). This system enabled a rapid mobilization of emergency services to evacuate victims to nearby health centers.

The causes of the accident

According to initial findings, the tragedy appears to have had a technical origin:

1. A tire blew out on one of the vehicles.
2. Mechanical failure resulting from the incident.

A thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the exact responsibilities of each party.

Passenger transport singled out

One of the critical issues raised by this tragedy is the misuse of the vehicles. Neither the truck nor the tricycle was authorized to carry passengers. Yet, dozens of people were on board at the time of the impact.

"Transporting people only with suitable vehicles is imperative to preserve lives," recalled Colonel Calixte Batossie Madjoulba, Minister of Security.

A call for collective responsibility

The government, through the minister, is urging road users to radically change their behavior:

1. Strict adherence to the highway code .
2. End of passenger transport in freight vehicles (trucks and tricycles).
3. Strict adherence to speed limits .

The ministry reaffirmed its determination to strengthen controls and awareness to curb road insecurity, recalling that "road safety is everyone's business".
