Faux monnayage: Les douanes déjouent une tentative de lavage de billets noirs d’une valeur d’un milliard de francs CFA à Kolda
The Nianaw Customs Post, under the Southern Regional Customs Directorate, made a major seizure of black banknotes on Thursday, thwarting a money laundering attempt orchestrated by a suspected counterfeiting network operating on both sides of the border.
The operation, conducted on May 14, 2026 at around 4 p.m. in the town of Kittim, department of Goudomp, resulted in the seizure of 1900 banknotes in denominations of 100 dollars and 3000 banknotes in denominations of 500 euros, for a total value estimated at nearly 1 billion 89 million CFA francs.
The seizure was the result of meticulous intelligence work. Customs officers in Nianaw combined information gathering, surveillance, and monitoring to intercept the suspects. Two foreign nationals were apprehended during the operation.
