Frappes américaines au Nigeria : Donald Trump revendique une opération contre l’État islamique
On Christmas Day, the US military conducted a series of targeted airstrikes in Sokoto State, northwestern Nigeria. President Donald Trump confirmed the operations on Truth Social, stating that they were a direct response to the massacres of Christians in the region. According to the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), the intervention was carried out at the request of the Nigerian government and neutralized several terrorists.
This first military action by the Trump administration in Nigeria marks a turning point. The American president, who denounces a "genocide" against Christians, had threatened to use force last month. For its part, Abuja welcomed a "structured security cooperation" to stem the extremist threat. Although Washington emphasizes religious persecution, the country remains plagued by multidimensional violence, combining jihadism, banditry, and agrarian conflicts.
