Ghana : Un hélicoptère s’écrase à Tema, deux morts
A plane crash has plunged Ghana into mourning this Monday, March 16, 2026. A helicopter crashed in the port city of Tema, located about twenty kilometers from the capital Accra, killing two of the occupants of the aircraft.
According to initial reports from authorities, the aircraft, a Sky Arrow microlight registered 9G-ADV , was flying from Ho to Accra when it disappeared from radar. Contact with air traffic control was reportedly lost around 2 p.m. , shortly before the crash.
The aircraft ultimately crashed in a park on Oninku Drive in the Tema Community One neighborhood , near a school. Witnesses reported seeing the helicopter rapidly lose altitude before crashing to the ground , causing a fire upon impact.
Ghanaian firefighters and security forces quickly responded to extinguish the flames and secure the area. Sadly, the two people on board were found dead .
Despite the proximity of a school and residential areas, no casualties were reported on the ground , which helped to avoid a higher death toll.
An investigation has been launched by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Initial findings should help establish whether a technical failure or weather conditions contributed to the crash.
This accident has caused a great deal of emotion in Ghana, where images of the burning aircraft quickly circulated on social media.
