Guinée-Bissau : des militaires prennent le "contrôle total du pays" et "suspendent" le processus électoral
Military personnel in Guinea-Bissau announced on Wednesday that they were taking "total control of the country", "suspending the electoral process" and closing the borders, as the country awaits the results of the presidential and legislative elections held on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, gunfire was heard near the presidential palace and men in military uniforms took control of the main road leading to the palace, in this West African country accustomed to political unrest, which has experienced four coups and a host of attempted putsch since its independence.
These military personnel spoke by reading a statement at the headquarters of the armed forces in the capital Bissau, AFP journalists observed on site.
