Guinée : folie meurtrière à Boké, un marabout découpe une vieille femme en morceaux
A tragedy of rare violence has rocked the sub-prefecture of Dabiss, in the Boké region. A Quranic teacher brutally killed an old woman he accused of witchcraft, before cutting her body into pieces.
The events occurred on the morning of Monday, October 20, 2025, in the Tambindjé district, part of Dabiss-centre, approximately fifty kilometers from the capital of the Boké prefecture. According to several witnesses, the alleged perpetrator, identified as Mamadou Oury Barry, allegedly used a machete to commit the irreparable act.
The case is now in the hands of the courts. Contacted this afternoon by our correspondent, Amara Sampou, president of the Dabiss special delegation, returned to the circumstances of the crime.
"It was yesterday morning that the accused, the Koranic master Mamadou Oury Barry, went to his peanut field with his disciples. While he was shelling the peanuts, his students, who were working in his second rice field, came to tell him that a bird had frightened them. As the two fields are separated by a forest, he went there. That's where he came across the old woman, aged about 70. An argument broke out, and the marabout ended up cutting her into several pieces, after having slit her throat," said the local official, visibly upset.
According to him, the tragedy was born from a suspicion of witchcraft. The marabout allegedly accused his mother-in-law of occult practices before carrying out the act.
"When we arrested the man, he was talking incoherently, like a madman. He said he was fighting with an animal and that he only realized it was a human being after he had cut it up," added Mr. Sampou, his voice trembling.
Faced with the shock and anger caused by this crime, local authorities are calling on the population to remain calm and to have confidence in the justice system.
The chairman of the Dabiss special delegation urged citizens to avoid any acts of reprisal.
According to the latest news, the alleged murderer was arrested and taken to the Boké security station, where he is in police custody, awaiting his transfer to the competent courts.
