Guinée: Incendie au marché Dorota (N’zérékoré) : « On a tout perdu » (victimes)
A violent fire, probably caused by a short circuit, broke out on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Dorota market, in the urban commune. According to victims interviewed on the spot by a Guineematin.com correspondent, there was no loss of life; but the material damage recorded was enormous. Residential houses, shops, and all their contents went up in smoke...
The devastating fire broke out at the market around 11 a.m. Many shops, homes, and their contents were reduced to ashes, plunging the victims into distress and dismay. It took the intervention of young people to limit the damage, as victims testified.
Ibrahima Keïta, a resident of Dorota and victim of this fire, says he has lost everything: “The fire started around 11 a.m.
I was somewhere when they called me to say that the fire had taken our corner. That's why I rushed to come. But, before I came, it turned out that the fire had consumed everything. We didn't lose any human life, but I can say that we lost everything. We couldn't spare even a single object. Only the bag I'm carrying remains, otherwise, we lost everything. Everything that was in the building. I don't know if they called the firefighters, but I didn't see them here. It was thanks to the efforts of the neighbors and the young people who brought water that we were able to control the fire. We are appealing for help to the authorities and people of good will. It's very difficult and regrettable, what happened to us," said Ibrahima Keïta.
Namory Traoré, who saw his younger brother's building go up in smoke, felt the same sense of dismay: "My younger brother's building and its contents went up in smoke. I was on the tarmac on the other side of the road when the fire broke out. I'm not well."
"It was through the youth movement that I understood. Despite my condition, I managed to come and see. We don't know what caused the fire, but we only saw the flames through the metal sheets. Everything we had in the building, everything is gone. Nothing was spared. All the goods that were also in the store, everything is gone... We humbly ask the authorities to help us. We have nothing left. Everything we had went in the fire...", said the old man Namory Traoré.
Deeply devastated by the disaster, M'mawa Keïta, owner of a shop and a residential building who says she has lost everything, calls for help: "My house and my shop were consumed by the fire. I came to see the fire that had engulfed almost everything. We were there when we were only told that the fire had taken over the building. The firefighters weren't there. I called people for help. And it was the young people and everyone here at the market, men and women, who provided first aid. This helped limit the damage."
"We lost everything. I had five freezers, a bed, a mattress, and many other items that all went up in smoke. I appeal to the authorities and people of good will to come to our aid. I have nothing left. If yesterday I was a trader, now I have lost everything...", said Mrs. Mawa Keïta, almost in tears.
