Homosexualité au Sénégal : Un reportage de France TV fait polémique, "ce sont des mensonges"
In its 8 p.m. news broadcast on Monday, May 11, France TV aired a controversial report on homosexuality in Senegal. The French television channel reported on the mob violence suffered by some suspected homosexuals. However, the report drew considerable criticism, particularly from Senegalese people, regarding the testimonies gathered in Dakar and the surrounding area.
The main statement that provoked several reactions was that of a Senegalese homosexual interviewed anonymously by France TV, who claimed that Senegalese people had been educated with ideas that "if they kill a homosexual, they will go to heaven".
"I'm Senegalese, but this is the first time I've heard this," one internet user commented. "These are lies," another responded, criticizing the French media outlet's narrative.
Even worse, France TV claims in its report that the arrests and convictions are due to the sexual orientation of the homosexuals, but never mentions that those arrested since the beginning of this new case were detained for intentionally transmitting HIV/AIDS. France TV even interviewed doctors from the National AIDS Control Center, but even there, intentional transmission of HIV was not mentioned.
A clearly biased narrative, which was not to the liking of many Senegalese and others.
