Lagos Renforce son Accès à l'Eau Potable avec Deux Projets Majeurs

The Lagos State administration has taken a significant step towards improving access to clean drinking water for its residents. On Friday, December 12, 2025, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated a new facility, while also confirming the progress of a large-scale water infrastructure project.

New Akilo Mini Station: One Million Gallons a Day

Governor Sanwo-Olu officially commissioned the mini-station of

Akilo water treatment plant , located in Isheri-Oke, in the Ogba district of Ikeja.

  1. Capacity: The facility is now fully operational and provides one million gallons of potable water per day .
  2. Impact: According to the Governor, this new station ensures reliable access to drinking water for hundreds of thousands of residents in the Akilo region.
  3. Partnership: This project is part of the urban water and sanitation access plan, the result of a collaboration between the Lagos State Water Corporation and WaterAid Nigeria .
"It is a great satisfaction to see this service provided to the population," said Governor Sanwo-Olu, highlighting the positive impact on the daily lives of local families and businesses.

Adiyan II: The Ambitious 70 Million Gallon Project

Following the inauguration, the Governor also visited the site of the second phase of the Adiyan water treatment complex in Oke-Aro . This project is considered one of the state's most ambitious for ensuring the long-term water supply of the rapidly growing megacity.

  1. Scope: Once completed, the Adiyan II complex will add 70 million gallons of water per day to the Lagos network.
  2. Beneficiaries: This new capacity is expected to serve up to 5 million inhabitants .
  3. Network: This production will complement the already operational stations of Adiyan I and Iju, considerably strengthening the reliability of Lagos' water supply.

These major investments reaffirm the Sanwo-Olu administration's commitment to addressing the water supply challenges for its population estimated at over 20 million, making these infrastructures a necessity for the city's sustainable development.
