Le Kenya sous les eaux : le bilan s'alourdit à 81 victimes
Kenya is experiencing a major humanitarian crisis. According to official figures released on Sunday, March 22, 2026, torrential rains that have been hitting the country since the beginning of the month have already caused the deaths of 81 people .
The capital, Nairobi , paid the heaviest price with 37 recorded deaths , becoming the epicenter of this weather disaster. However, the distress extended far beyond the urban area:
"The waters of the Sondu Miriu river have swept everything away: corn, beans, bananas... Our lands are lost and the inhabitants are now spread across eight emergency centers," laments Seth Oluoch Agwanda, chief of the village of Nyakach.
These floods are not simply a seasonal occurrence. Experts point to human-caused climate change , which exacerbates the violence and frequency of these phenomena in East Africa. For the past twenty years, the region has been fluctuating
dangerously between extreme droughts and torrential rainfall, placing the Kenyan government in front of a titanic challenge: to rescue populations immediately while adapting to a climate instability that is becoming the norm.
