Législatives en Côte d’Ivoire : Le RHDP consolide sa majorité, l'opposition en recul
The Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) has released almost all the results of the December 27th legislative elections. Unsurprisingly, the Ivorian political landscape remains dominated by the ruling party, in a context marked by the absence of Laurent Gbagbo's party (PPA-CI) and the rise of independent candidates.
The Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) has once again consolidated its dominance over the National Assembly. The presidential party swept aside its opponents in the north of the country, achieving scores approaching 100% in localities such as Boundiali and Odienné . This resounding victory allows the ruling party to maintain a comfortable majority for the upcoming legislative session.
The main opposition party in this race, the Democratic Party of Côte d'Ivoire (PDCI), managed to hold onto its seats in its historical strongholds, but suffered an overall decline. Among the points of satisfaction for Tidjane Thiam's party:
The election also highlighted the strength of independent candidates, who managed to prevail in several constituencies against traditional political machines.
However, this breakthrough has not been without its challenges. In Tiassalé , the defeat of incumbent MP Antoine Assalé Tiémoko by the RHDP has sparked significant tensions. He has already announced an appeal to the Constitutional Council, denouncing irregularities in the vote.
