Mali : Barrick Gold récupère ses 3 tonnes d’or après un accord avec la junte
Malian courts have ordered the return of 3 tons of gold to the Canadian company Barrick Gold, ending a months-long standoff. Seized last January by authorities at the Loulo-Gounkoto mine, this shipment—estimated to be worth $400 million—had been held until now at the BMS bank in Bamako.
This outcome follows a comprehensive agreement reached last month: Barrick Gold agreed to pay $430 million to the Malian state to settle the dispute related to the implementation of the new mining code. In addition to recovering its gold, the multinational is expected to regain full control of its mining complex as early as next week, ending the provisional administration imposed by the court last June.
