Mali : Les dividendes de l’or redynamisent les territoires
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, a historic milestone was reached at the Koulouba Palace. General Assimi Goïta presided over the official handover of checks from the Local Mining Development Fund , thus fulfilling a major promise of the National Refoundation Conference.
In total, 18.4 billion FCFA (for the 2025 financial year) have been mobilized to be redistributed to all 819 municipalities in Mali.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Alousséni Sanou, specified the modalities of this sharing, aimed at correcting territorial disparities:
"The idea is that the wealth of the subsoil benefits every Malian, from Kayes to Kidal, and not just mining communities," the minister stressed.
This financial windfall, stemming from contributions from mining and quarrying operators, is the result of the 2023 reform of the Mining Code . For local elected officials, such as Yéhia Ha Konta, mayor of Alafia (Timbuktu), it represents an unprecedented opportunity to finance basic infrastructure.
Aware of the risks of mismanagement, the Head of State has established a three-level control system (municipal, regional and national) acting as anti-corruption "filters".
General Goïta's message is clear:
Key figures: | Indicator | Data | | :--- | :--- | | Total amount | 18.4 billion FCFA | | Beneficiaries | 819 municipalities | | Legal basis | Mining Code 2023 / Decree of February 27, 2026 |
