Méditerranée : 57 migrants secourus par l'ONG Emergency

The humanitarian vessel Life Support , chartered by the Italian NGO Emergency , carried out another crucial rescue operation Friday evening in the central Mediterranean. A total of 57 people who were in distress aboard an overcrowded boat were brought to safety.

Details of the intervention

The rescue took place in the search and rescue (SAR) zone under Libyan jurisdiction. Among the survivors are:

  1. 12 women ;
  2. 9 minors , 5 of whom are unaccompanied;
  3. Nationals from several African countries (Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, Guinea, Gambia, etc.).

Heading towards Civitavecchia

The NGO's ship is now en route to the port of Civitavecchia , designated by the Italian authorities. With this new group, the Life Support is currently carrying 98 passengers . The journey is expected to be long, requiring several days at sea to reach this destination north of Rome.

A tragic migratory context

This operation serves as yet another reminder of the dangers of the world's deadliest migration route. Whether fleeing conflict zones, climate crises, or economic hardship, thousands of refugees continue to risk their lives each year in the hope of finding refuge in Europe.
