Nigeria : au moins 8 morts dans une embuscade contre des policiers
Gunmen ambushed security personnel in Nigeria's northwest Zamfara state and killed at least eight people, the state governor said.
The attack took place on Thursday on the Gusau-Funtua road in the Tsafe region of Zamfara state and claimed the lives of five police officers and three members of a local paramilitary group collaborating with the police, Governor Dauda Lawal said in a statement posted on Facebook.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the killings.
Such attacks are common in northern Nigeria , where herders and local farmers often clash over limited access to land and water.
Farmers accuse herders, mainly of Fulani origin, of grazing their cattle on their farms and destroying their crops.
In recent months, there has been a surge in attacks by armed groups kidnapping residents for ransom in northwest Nigeria, particularly in Zamfara State.
"We pray to God to end this security problem in Zamfara State and Nigeria ," Lawal said on Facebook.
Buhari Morki, a resident of Gusau, told The Associated Press that the gunmen were waiting in the bushes along the road where law enforcement usually patrols.
"The bandits were heading towards a community in the area when they spotted the patrol ," Mr Moriki said.
Nigeria is also struggling to contain Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast of the country, where some 35,000 civilians have been killed and more than 2 million displaced, according to the United Nations.
