Nigeria : Une base stratégique ravagée par une attaque de l'ISWAP
Northeast Nigeria is once again the scene of bloody violence. A large-scale offensive led by the Islamic State in West Africa ( ISWAP ) targeted a key military position in Borno State, leaving behind a heavy toll of human lives and material damage.
According to security sources, the attack was of rare intensity:
Approximately 70 fighters , arriving in a convoy of motorcycles, stormed the village of Cross Kauwa . Despite heavy exchanges of fire, the military was unable to halt the jihadists' advance.
This base served a critical function: located only 24 km from Baga , it acted as a bulwark to protect this vital fishing center from terrorist incursions.
This attack is part of a resurgence of violence in the region. The Nigerian army confirmed that two other bases in Borno State were targeted the same weekend.
The key figure: Since 2009, the insurgency led by ISWAP and Boko Haram has caused more than 40,000 deaths and forced 2 million people to flee their homes, also destabilizing neighbouring Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
