Nord-Est du Nigeria : Un général perd la vie dans une offensive jihadiste coordonnée
Northeast Nigeria was once again the scene of a bloody night. Between Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 April 2026 , jihadist groups launched simultaneous assaults against three strategic military installations: Benisheikh, Pulka and Munguno .
The most devastating attack targeted the Benisheikh base in the Kaga district of Borno State. According to military sources and AFP, the fighting was exceptionally fierce.
The Nigerian army has suffered another major blow. This is the second officer of this rank to fall in less than six months. In November 2025, Brigadier General Musa Uba was killed by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Damboa.
"We are seeing a resurgence of attacks targeting our forces," admitted Defense Minister General Musa. While acknowledging increased pressure on the ground, he maintained that the losses inflicted on terrorists remain higher than those suffered by the regular army.
For over 17 years, the jihadist insurgency has destabilized this region of Nigeria. ISWAP appears to have refined its strategy by increasing night raids and coordinated attacks against fortified positions, clearly seeking to decapitate the operational command on the ground.
