Présidentielle en Guinée : la candidature de Mamadi Doumbouya retenue parmi neuf prétendants
The Supreme Court published on Saturday, November 8, the provisional list of candidates for the presidential election of December 28. Unsurprisingly, the head of the junta, General Mamadi Doumbouya , is included.
Of the 51 cases examined, the Court validated nine. Mamadi Doumbouya, 40, who has led the country since the 2021 coup, submitted his candidacy despite his initial promise to return power to civilians .
He faces eight other candidates, most of whom are little known to the general public. Major political figures, such as the exiled former Prime Minister Cellou Dalein Diallo , are absent from this list. The opposition could, however, rally around Faya Lansana Millimono , known for his sharp criticism of the military regime.
The unsuccessful candidates have 72 hours to appeal this decision. The Supreme Court will then have 48 hours to rule on the appeals.
This presidential election, awaited for years by the population and the international community, is supposed to close the transition period opened by the coup of September 2021, which overthrew the civilian president Alpha Condé.
