RCA : 10 000 rebelles déposent les armes
At the eleventh session of the DDRR Strategic Committee, held in Bangui on Friday, October 10, Central African President Faustin-Archange Touadéra welcomed the progress made in the country's peace process. According to the Central African government, pacification is progressing with the disarmament of ex-combatants.
This "massive" disarmament is the result of the implementation of the peace agreement, reinforced by the State's partnership with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and the Russian presence. "Today, eleven of the fourteen armed groups that signed the Political Agreement for Peace and National Reconciliation have dissolved their movements," the president said. He also mentioned that the two remaining groups, Unity for Peace in the Central African Republic and 3R (Return, Reclamation, and Rehabilitation), are in the process of being completely dissolved, in accordance with the N'Djamena Agreement.
The President stressed the importance of consolidating peace, security, and national unity for the country's future development. Faustin-Archange Touadéra expressed his confidence in a positive development of the situation and the determination of Central Africans to build a stable future.
This assessment of DDRR and reconciliation comes just months before the general elections, including the presidential election, scheduled for next December. The National Elections Authority has registered ten candidacy files, including those of the outgoing president, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, and the main opposition figure, Anicet Georges Dologuélé.
