RDC : Quinze militaires rwandais présentés à la presse sur fond de tensions persistantes
The Congolese army (FARDC) has taken a new step in its crisis communication strategy. This Saturday, January 3, authorities presented fifteen Rwandan soldiers captured on the North and South Kivu fronts to the media. According to Kinshasa, the presence of these men, including two intelligence officers (a major and a captain), confirms Kigali's direct involvement alongside the AFC/M23 rebels.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mak Hazukay denounced Rwanda's arguments of "defensive measures," pointing out that the fighting is now taking place as far as Uvira, far from the Rwandan border.
In addition to the military, several foreign civilians (Burundians, Ugandans, and Tanzanians) have been arrested on charges of espionage and terrorism. Kinshasa sees this as an attempt by Kigali to "regionalize the conflict" by manipulating armed groups like the Red Tabara. For its part, Rwanda continues to deny any aggression, claiming it is acting solely to protect itself from the FDLR rebels.
