Senegal : Une importante cargaison d'explosifs interceptée par la police des frontières
As part of border security efforts and efforts to strengthen controls against explosives trafficking, members of the Diyabougou border police station, a structure under the Kidira special police station, conducted a particularly successful targeted surveillance operation, Seneweb learned from Commissioner Mamadou Diouf, head of the National Police Communication Division.

The chronological sequence of events of the interception
It all started in the middle of the night of May 16-17, 2026, at the checkpoint commonly known as the "GMI Elements Post". The police officers positioned themselves from 3:30 a.m. to monitor an unofficial bypass, a route particularly popular with pedestrians and motorcyclists at this time of year.

It was at this moment that a courier approached the road on a blue Vainqueur motorcycle. Having detected the presence of law enforcement, the suspect fled to avoid arrest, abandoning his motorcycle, shoes, and all his illicit cargo. He then managed to take refuge in Malian territory after crossing a branch of the nearby river.
Significant material damage and ongoing investigations
The police then secured the area. A search of the abandoned packages revealed two bags, each containing ten packets of 33 explosive devices, for a total of 660 explosive sticks. Four rolls of detonating cord, each 250 meters long, were also found, totaling 1,000 meters. All of these prohibited items, as well as the motorcycle, were impounded at the police station for the purposes of the investigation.
Initial investigations revealed that this contraband material was destined for the village of Diyabougou. The explosives were to be transported there for use in blasting the subsoil as part of illegal gold mining activities.
