Sommet de Bamako : Ibrahim Traoré prend les rênes de la Confédération de l'AES
Meeting in ordinary session on December 25, 2025, in Bamako, the leaders of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) marked a major turning point in their young history. Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso, officially succeeded General Assimi Goïta as the rotating president of the organization for a one-year term.
This summit strengthened the alliance's institutional framework through the signing of key protocols related to defense, diplomacy, and development. While commending the outgoing president's record, the heads of state firmly condemned foreign interference and reiterated their confidence in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHR) to guarantee regional stability. The meeting concluded on a note of unity, celebrating Sahelian cooperation that is more autonomous than ever.
