Tchad : Le conflit de Ngoura mène à l'arrestation d'un sous-préfet et à l'incinération d'armes
N'Djamena, Chad – Following the violent intercommunal conflict that occurred in Ngoura on November 4, 2025, the Ministry of Justice confirmed the arrest of several people considered to be perpetrators or accomplices in the clashes.
Among those arrested are a sub-prefect, a military official, and two traditional chiefs . This series of arrests underscores the authorities' determination to hold accountable those involved in the violence, including those in the public service or local administration.
A government mission traveled to the Hadjer-Lamis region to assess the situation. On behalf of the Republic and the Head of State, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, the delegation offered its condolences to the families bereaved by these clashes.
One of the mission's main objectives was disarmament. The weapons searches ordered by the delegation resulted in the recovery of numerous firearms. On Monday, November 10, authorities incinerated the bladed weapons seized from members of the two communities involved. Several firearms were also confiscated during these searches.
The mission also emphasized prevention. On November 6, 2025, the delegation met with the chiefs of cantons and villages in the provinces of Barh El-Ghazel and Hadjer-Lamis.
They were urged to fully assume their responsibilities to prevent and avert any further intercommunal conflict. The mission stressed the need for close and proactive collaboration between traditional authorities and the administration to maintain local peace and security.
