Tchad : Le secteur éducatif paralysé par une grève et des tensions lycéennes

The Chadian school system is going through a period of great turbulence. On Monday, February 16, 2026, the strike launched by the Chadian Teachers' Union (SET) not only emptied public school classrooms, but also triggered anger among students.

N'Djamena: Public school students disrupt private school

Frustrated at seeing their schooling halted while their peers in the private sector continue to study, students in public high schools have decided to take action.

  1. The origin: The movement began in the Walia district.
  2. The action: Groups of protesters crisscrossed the capital to disrupt classes in private schools, out of forced solidarity.
  3. The context: This mobilization follows the call for a two-week strike, effective since this morning in the capital.

The spread of the conflict: Western Logone joins the movement

The protest is no longer confined to the capital. The Logone Occidental section ( SET-LOC ) officially joined the strike this Monday after a tense general assembly.

The point of contention: The application of decree no. 2850. Teachers denounce "unbearable" administrative delays and the lack of a precise timetable for the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the government.

The terms of the strike

The standoff is now underway for an initial period of two weeks (from February 16 to 28, 2026), with a clear threat of renewal.

The union warns:

  1. Firmness: No hierarchical pressure to force the resumption of classes will be tolerated.
  2. Escalation: Without concrete progress, the movement could harden from the beginning of March.
