Tchad : Quatre officiers tués et un gouverneur suspendu après des heurts au Borkou
Northern Chad, and more specifically the Borkou province, was the scene of violent clashes between February 17 and 18. The toll is heavy: four high-ranking soldiers lost their lives during an operation against highway robbers.
It all began on Tuesday evening on the Faya-Kouba Olanga road. A transport vehicle was ambushed; the driver was killed by armed men. The following day, the situation escalated when relatives of the victim joined the fight against the assailants.
The army's intervention to restore order turned into a tragedy. Among the military victims were high-ranking regional security officials:
As a direct consequence of this chaos, the provincial governor, Djimta Ben Dergon , was suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Territorial Administration. The reason given was severe: "refusal to assume his responsibilities" and fleeing from the situation.
