A security operation in the Borkou province turned into a tragedy on February 17, 2026. Although the security forces managed to neutralize the attackers, the human toll was heavy, marked by the loss of high-ranking officers of the Chadian army.

The initial ambush

The tragedy began Tuesday night when a transport vehicle belonging to the MG agency was targeted by highway robbers . The criminals opened fire on the convoy, instantly killing the driver, Ali Tchaïmi . After the murder, the assailants methodically robbed the passengers of all their belongings before fleeing.

An immediate and fatal response

As soon as the alert was given, the governor of Borkou ordered a large-scale intervention involving the gendarmerie legion and the sub-group of the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad (GNNT) .

The manhunt led to a direct confrontation in the desert:

1. The accident: Under the pressure of the pursuit, the criminals' vehicle rolled over.
2. The entrenchment: Cornered, the attackers took up positions and engaged in a fierce battle against the security forces.
3. The toll for law enforcement: Four high-ranking officers were killed during the exchange of fire, including the commander of the Borkou gendarmerie legion and the commander of the GNNT group . Two colonels were among the victims.
