Transition énergétique au Tchad : le gouvernement casse les prix sur l’importation des véhicules électriques

Chad's green transition is accelerating. Faithful to the commitments of the 2026 Finance Law , the Minister of State in charge of Finance, Tahir Hamid Nguilin, has just signed decree no. 021, establishing major tax advantages to promote electric mobility throughout the territory.

A massive 75% discount on new items

The key measure concerns the importation of new electric vehicles. A 75% reduction in the taxable value is now granted to a wide range of transport vehicles, including:

  1. Heavy goods vehicles: Tractors and goods transport vehicles.
  2. Public transport: Buses and vehicles with more than 10 seats.
  3. Personal vehicles: Passenger cars and city cars.
  4. Two-wheelers: Motorcycles and electric bicycles.
  5. Logistics: Industrial electric trolleys.

Customs exemption for charging infrastructure

To support this new fleet, the government is also facilitating the installation of the necessary infrastructure. According to Article 2 of the decree, battery chargers benefit from a total exemption from import duties and taxes.

One objective: to modernize and depollute

This reform, to be implemented immediately by the Directorate General of Customs, aims at two strategic objectives:

  1. Reducing the carbon footprint of the transport sector in Chad.
  2. Modernize the national vehicle fleet by making clean technologies more financially accessible.

By removing tariff barriers, Chad hopes to create a supply shock and encourage both dealers and individuals to abandon thermal vehicles for electric ones.
