Université de Garoua : Le cri de détresse des docteurs PhD face au silence des élites

In Garoua, anger is simmering within the local intellectual community. A group of young PhDs, currently unemployed, has strongly appealed to the political and traditional leaders of the North region. The cause: a feeling of systematic marginalization during the recruitment of teaching assistants at the University of Garoua.

A statement of abandonment

The group bitterly denounces what it calls the "carelessness" and "indifference" of the elites (members of parliament, senators, traditional chiefs, and mayors). According to these young researchers, while local expertise is very real, academic positions are predominantly awarded to candidates from other backgrounds.

Points of tension

The group's indignation is based on several key arguments:

  1. Regional imbalance: During the last special recruitment (Bertoua, Ebolowa, Garoua), the Adamaoua and Far North regions reportedly obtained a larger share of positions within the Garoua institution itself.
  2. The legitimacy of the profiles: The members of the collective claim to be "qualified, competent and legitimate", deploring that their expertise is not prioritized.
  3. The silence of the elders: For these doctors, the silence of the local authorities in the face of this situation is perceived as a tacit validation of a form of exclusion.

A call for a "collective awakening"

Far from simply asking for a favor, the plaintiffs demand respect for the principles of fairness and regional balance . They are calling for strong intervention from their elites to:

  1. To use their influence in order to protect the interests of the youth of the North.
  2. Ensure that geographical proximity and local expertise carry more weight in the jury's decisions.
  3. To put an end to what they perceive as being relegated to the background.
Note: This situation highlights a recurring debate in state universities, where the tension between national merit and local representativeness remains a sensitive issue.
