The Coffee and Cocoa Council is stepping up its efforts. The institution's Director General, Koné Brahima Yves, officially launched the National Traceability System (NTS) and announced that the producer card will become strictly mandatory from September 1, 2026 , the date which will mark the opening of the 2026-2027 main campaign.

Anticipating the demands of the European market

This major reform aims to bring the Ivorian sector into compliance with the new European Union regulation against deforestation, which will come into force on January 1, 2027. From now on, in order to be exported to Europe, coffee, cocoa and their derivatives will have to prove that they do not come from deforested areas.

"This progress is a guarantee for our international partners, but above all an opportunity to strengthen the credibility and competitiveness of Ivorian cocoa and coffee," stressed Koné Brahima Yves.

The advantages of the producer card

Beyond strict regulatory compliance, this card aims to be a tool for security and social progress within the agricultural sector. In particular, it guarantees:

  1. Securing financial transactions .
  2. Compliance with the farmgate price set by the State.
  3. Increased social protection : holders benefit from 100% coverage under Universal Health Coverage (CMU), in accordance with the commitments of President Alassane Ouattara.

The Director General therefore urged producers not yet registered to quickly visit the regional delegations of the Council or the monitoring units to regularize their situation before the deadline.

A technological transition that is already well underway

This launch is the culmination of extensive work that began in 2019 with a general census of producers and the geolocation of plots. The project's key figures demonstrate the scale of the deployment:

Indicator Current status
Listed producers More than a million
Cards produced and distributed Nearly 900,000
Geolocated area Approximately 3 million hectares of cocoa plantations
Volume test plot (Oct 2025 - Mar 2026) Over 160,000 tonnes successfully exported

Welcomed by all stakeholders in the sector (producers, cooperatives, buyers and exporters), this initiative is seen as a true revolution that propels Ivorian agriculture into the era of transparency and sustainability.
