Ivory Coast is stepping up its efforts to ensure its food sovereignty. This Thursday, March 12, 2026, key players in the rice sector met in Abidjan to validate a strategic study aimed at regulating the market and boosting national production.
The stakes are high: to achieve self-sufficiency by 2027 and become the breadbasket of the sub-region by 2030.
Led by Istradev Consulting with financial support from IFAD , the study proposes a concrete roadmap to fill the current gap (a production of 1.55 million tonnes for a need exceeding 2 million).

To turn these ambitions into reality, a five-year financing plan of 768 billion FCFA has been outlined. This budget rests on two pillars:
"The goal is to move from dependence on external markets to the status of a leading exporter in West Africa by 2030."
