The Ivorian government is stepping up its efforts to structure the coconut sector. From June 14 to 21, 2026 , the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production will deploy a major national mission for information, awareness-raising and field surveys.

This initiative is led by the Directorate of Professional Agricultural Organizations (DOPA), with technical and financial support from the Rubber-Oil Palm-Coconut Council (CHPC) and FIRCA. Its ultimate goal: to lay the groundwork for the future Interprofessional Agricultural Organization (OIA) for the sector.

🎯 The main objectives of the mission

According to a CHPC memo published on June 12, the tour will aim to:

  1. Inform and raise awareness: Educate producers, processors and traders on the legal framework of interprofessional organizations.
  2. Structure: Present the method of constitution of the different professional colleges.
  3. Audit and map: Verify the legal and physical existence of current organizations and check production data to assess the representativeness of each actor.

📍 Geographic deployment and strategic axes

The mission will travel through the major production areas via three main road routes. Mini-workshops for around fifty participants will be organized in the following strategic locations:

  1. Coastal and historical areas: Tabou, Fresco, Jacqueville, Bonoua, Aboisso.
  2. Inland areas: Daloa, Yamoussoukro, Agboville.
The discussions will cover: The legal framework for OIAs, the timetable for the creation of the interprofessional body, and the plan for setting up professional colleges.

📈 The economic stakes of the coconut industry

This restructuring is part of the government's effort to revitalize a crop crucial to the economy of the Ivorian coast. The sector was also recently brought under the regulatory authority of the CHPC (Centre Hospitalier de la Côte d'Ivoire).

The sector in figures:

  1. Area: Approximately 50,000 hectares (including 35,000 ha of village plantations).
  2. Production: More than 70,000 tonnes of copra per year.

Ultimately, the conclusions of this tour will make it possible to draw up a reliable map of the forces at play in order to propel Côte d'Ivoire among the African leaders in the production and processing of coconut.
