Prolifération des écoles d’architecture : L’Ordre met en garde contre les formations non reconnues

The President of the Order of Architects of Côte d'Ivoire (OACI), Mr. Amon Joseph, held a press conference on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Institution's headquarters in Cocody-Abidjan. This meeting, under the theme "Proliferation of Architecture Schools," aimed to inform the public about the regulatory framework governing architectural training, to present the official list of schools approved by UEMOA and to warn of the risks associated with enrolling in unrecognized institutions.

"For some time now, we have observed a proliferation of private institutions claiming to offer architectural training, including plans to open new schools. Despite numerous appeals and statements from the ICAO, no concrete measures have yet been taken to regulate this situation," lamented Mr. Amon. According to him, this trend directly threatens architectural quality, declared to be of public utility and interest by law.

The ICAO President recalled that the architect's diploma is a title protected by the State, just like those of doctors, pharmacists, or lawyers. He denounced "the serious harm caused to the profession" by unregulated training and reaffirmed the Order's responsibility to defend the credibility of the architect's diploma and title.

"We cannot shirk this fundamental responsibility regarding architectural training and the awarding of diplomas," he insisted. The speaker also clarified that only the State has the prerogative to authorize schools of architecture, in accordance with the laws, decrees, and directives in force. "No one can claim the title of architect with impunity," he firmly reiterated.

In conclusion, Joseph Amon called for civic and institutional responsibility, urging parents, students, and private operators to comply with the regulations to preserve the credibility of the profession. Through this initiative, the ICAO reaffirms its mission to ensure the quality of training and the protection of the title of architect, an essential pillar of urban development and public safety.
