Droits des femmes : Yamoussoukro au cœur de la diplomatie parlementaire francophone

The city of Yamoussoukro was abuzz on April 22nd and 23rd, 2026, with the intersessional meeting of the Network of Women Parliamentarians of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) . This strategic gathering provided an opportunity to review legislative progress and define new priorities for gender equality within the Francophone community.

An action-oriented agenda

Under the guidance of high-ranking figures, including Koné Maïmouna (representing First Lady Dominique Ouattara), parliamentarians worked on crucial issues:

  1. Combating human trafficking: Examination of concrete draft resolutions.
  2. Combating sexism: Analysis of hostile and paternalistic forms of discrimination.
  3. Security: Monitoring of the “Women, Peace and Security” Agenda.

The Ivorian model: Progress and reforms

As guest of honor, the President of the Ivorian Senate, Kandia Camara , outlined the successes of Côte d'Ivoire, driven by the 2016 Constitution. She highlighted, in particular:

  1. The legal framework: Establishment of a 30% quota for women on electoral lists and secure access to land.
  2. Education and defense: Compulsory schooling and opening of elite corps (Gendarmerie, Military School) to young girls.
  3. Financial empowerment: Success of the Ivory Coast Women's Support Fund (FAFCI).
"In the Senate, female representation has increased from 21% in 2018 to 25% in 2023," Ms. Camara stated, highlighting a dynamic of constant progress.

Ongoing Challenges and Prospects

Despite these victories, the President did not gloss over the challenges. Socio-cultural inertia , early marriages , and regional disparities in education remain major obstacles.

To remedy this, she advocated for:

  1. A more rigorous application of existing laws.
  2. The creation of a territorial academy for inclusive governance to boost local female leadership.

A shared desire for pooling resources

In closing, Lydienne Epoubé , Vice-President of the Network, praised the excellence of the Ivorian organization. The delegates left with the ambition to build a common legislative framework, convinced that equal opportunities are the essential driving force for sustainable development and peace within the Francophone community.

Alongside the working sessions, the delegations were able to discover the realities on the ground through visits to NGOs and the discovery of the tourist heritage of the political capital.
